DESIGN TREND | The Messy Bed

Making its official design trend debut in 2016, the messy bed lingers on. We say “officially” because hasn’t this been around forever? We only wish to have been clever enough to start this trend growing up when our own mom required us to painstakingly make our beds every.single.day. It must be those years of conditioning that has us struggling to get on board. Admittedly so, perhaps we are a little too uptight!

Our Laurel Drive project designed with linen bedding from Orchid Luxe Home.

The best we can do to support the trend is integrate luxe linen bedding. With its naturally wrinkled and worn texture, it adds a comfortably thrown together look. Our other attempt at the trend? Casually tossed accent pillows in cottons, linen and boucle fabrics.

If you’re not so sure about it for yourself, check out this article from Architectural Digest. And if you are a definite “no”… try finding your bedding style with these schematic images we share with our clients. It is how we get to know their preferences before designing for them!

P.S. We have read that tidying your bed each morning can be a “keystone habit” that causes a domino effect of other smart choices and positive practices throughout the day. Writer Charles Duhigg explains in his bestselling book, The Power of Habit: “Making your bed every morning is correlated with better productivity, a greater sense of well-being, and stronger skills at sticking with a budget. It’s not that a family meal or a tidy bed causes better grades or less frivolous spending. But somehow those initial shifts start chain reactions that help other good habits take hold.”
