After more than a decade in interior design, hundreds of completed projects, and countless conversations around kitchen tables, construction sites, and furnished living rooms, we've come to know a few things for sure.
Most of them have very little to do with design.
People often assume our work revolves around selecting fabrics, choosing paint colors, or finding the perfect sofa. Those moments are certainly part of what we do, but they're only a small piece of the story.
The truth is, clients rarely hire us because they need help picking a sofa.
They hire us because they're busy. They're relocating across the country. They're building their forever home. They're navigating a divorce. They're welcoming a new baby. They're becoming empty nesters. They have demanding careers and don't want another full-time job managing a renovation and furnishing project.
They're looking for someone they can trust to guide the process.
After helping clients through those moments for more than ten years, we've come to know a few things for sure.
Great Design Should Never Look Like the Designer
One of the biggest compliments we receive is that our projects don't all look alike. That's intentional.
Our role isn't to recreate the same home over and over again. It's to understand the people who will live there and design a home that feels unmistakably theirs.
Some clients gravitate toward clean contemporary spaces. Others love collected, traditional interiors filled with history and character. Neither is better than the other.
The common thread isn't a signature style. It's tasteful design, that reflects the people who call it home.
Beautiful Interior Design Should Also Function Beautifully
A room can photograph beautifully and still fail the people living in it.
The best homes aren't simply attractive. They support everyday routines, encourage gathering, simplify daily life, and make people feel comfortable the moment they walk through the door.
That's why every design decision balances beauty with function. It's reaching for a light switch exactly where your hand expects it to be, or sinking into a sofa where each person has the cushion that's perfectly suited to the way they relax.
Beauty may be what people notice first. Function is what they'll appreciate every single day.
Interior Design Is More Technical Than Most People Realize
People are often surprised by how technical design really is, yes there is math involved in interior design. There is often a formula for everything.
Furniture layouts, custom cabinetry, lighting placement, television sizing, architectural details, window treatments, and construction tolerances all depend on careful measurement and planning.
Pinterest can inspire a room. Technical experience is what makes it work.
The details most people never notice are often the very things that make a space feel calm, balanced, and comfortable.
Why Full-Service Interior Design Is Really About Project Management
If we had to estimate, about eighty-five percent of our work is project management.
Coordinating vendors. Managing timelines. Reviewing shop drawings. Tracking thousands of details. Communicating with contractors. Solving problems before clients ever know they existed.
Design is what everyone sees. Project management is our superpower that allows the design to become reality.
We Undoubtedly Attract the Best Clients
We get to work with people who trust us, inspire us, and make this work incredibly rewarding. In fact, our trades and vendor partners regularly comment on how wonderful our clients are.
They'll often ask us, "How do you girls always have the best clients?" Our answer is usually the same: "We just do!"
All we know is that after more than a decade in business, we've been incredibly fortunate to work with thoughtful, kind, interesting people, and we never stop appreciating that.
Why Trust Matters During a Renovation or New Build
One thing that surprises many people is how little our clients need to be involved in the daily management of a project.
Some of our largest renovations have required only a handful of meetings over many months.
That's exactly how we designed our process. Our clients have careers, businesses, families, responsibilities, and leisure. They don't need another full-time job managing a renovation. Our role is to carry that responsibility for them.
When clients trust the process, stay open-minded, and allow us to do what they've hired us to do, the experience becomes significantly more enjoyable and project result significantly more impactful.
There Is Nothing Serious Going On Here
Early in our business, we worked with two ER doctors who said something that has stayed with us ever since.
During our first design consultation, they told us, "We have stressful jobs that are life-or-death. We don't want this project to feel that way."
It was a simple comment, but it shaped the way we've approached every project since. We're designing homes, not performing surgery.
We laugh a lot, have fun, and try not to take ourselves too seriously. The reality is that there is very little that can't be adjusted, corrected, or solved along the way.
A home project is exciting. It's hopeful. It's often the beginning of a new chapter. At the end of the day, we're picking tile, selecting sofas, and creating beautiful spaces. Nothing serious is happening here.

While we like to keep the process light, we never take the responsibility lightly. Our clients have entrusted us with their homes, their time, and the resources to create spaces that will become part of their everyday lives.

Listening Is One of Our Greatest Interior Design Tools
What clients don't say often tells us the most.
Sometimes the most important information isn't shared directly. It's found in the way someone talks about their family, their routines, their travels, or the spaces they love most.
It's the way their eyes light up when they see a design direction they connect with. It's the hesitation when something doesn't feel quite right. It's the body language, the stories, and the offhand comments that reveal far more than most people realize.
In our industry, it's common to send clients lengthy questionnaires before a project begins. We've never loved that approach.
Our philosophy is simple: understanding our clients is our job, not theirs. We'd rather have a conversation, ask thoughtful questions, and pay attention than assign homework before we get started.

The impact of a thoughtfully designed home is often bigger than people expect. In fact, many clients don't fully realize it until they're living in their completed space.
